Terry Calhoun is the assistant director for Electronic Media with the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) where he manages the Society's electronic resources, including Internet resources like SCUP Email News (circulation 10,000+) and SCUP's Plan Ahead Web site.

Calhoun received his bachelor's in anthropology from Kent State University in 1973 after a matriculation which began in 1967 but was interrupted by the war in Vietnam. Much of his military service was with the amphibious navy, including a stint with Underwater Demolition Team Thirteen. During 1970-71, he touched the very edge of the fledgling Internet while serving with the Defense Special Projects Group (DSPG) in Washington, DC. Calhoun received a master's degree in biological anthropology from the University of Michigan in 1975 and pursued his doctorate in biological anthropology until 1977. In 1975 he received the Alex Hrdlicka Award from the American Association of Physical Anthropologists for the presentation of his research concerning the evolution of certain bones in the hands and feet of primates.

Calhoun received the degree of juris doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 1980. He has taught undergraduate and graduate level classes at the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Oakland University Washtenaw Community College, and Wayne County Community College, as well as technical classes to working adults. In addition to participating in literally dozens of online communities, Calhoun is a member of many professional associations, including the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the HTML Writers Guild (HWG), and the Worldwide Association of Online Educators (WAOE). He is a founding director and active member of the Association of Internet Professionals (AIP). He maintains a passionate interest in learning and in the use of technology to enhance learning.
