Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, North Central Association of College of Schools
As executive director of the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Steven Crow provides leadership to the Commission, its membership of 986 institutions, and the staff of 32 to assure the effectiveness of regional institutional accreditation and to represent the Commission on the national scene. Over the past several years he has been instrumental in helping the accrediting community develop principles to guide international education ventures. He has presented several papers on accreditation and international education. His most recent contributions have been in investigating the impact of distance learning on institutional accreditation, in reconceptualizing accreditation processes, and spearheading collaborative efforts with other agencies and associations. He served on the Commission's Critical Issues Committee which, after two years of work, led the Commission to revise many of its requirements and processes. More recently he served on the Commission's Committee on Organizational Effectiveness and Future Directions which filed its major report with the Commission in February 1998.
Crow has been called upon for presentations on campuses, for speeches at many different professional organizations, for participation in regional task forces including state agencies, and on national committees dealing with institutional and specialized accreditation. His published work includes an article and book review on colonial U.S. history, as well as numerous articles and publications concerning accreditation.
