Michael Theall received his doctorate in instructional design, development, and evaluation from Syracuse University in 1980. He is currently an associate professor of education and director of CATALYST, the Center for the Advancement of Teaching And Learning at Youngstown STate University. He has taught in public school and university systems and has 27 years experience in instructional design, development, and evaluation in higher education. He has directed teaching centers at four institutions, written and managed major funded projects, produced instructional media, and consulted internationally on numerous topics. His research and writing emphases are college teaching and learning, faculty evaluation, student ratings of instruction, motivation, and technology in teaching and learning, and he has contributed over 160 publications and presentations to the literature of these fields.
