A native of Michigan, Mary Ellen Nourse earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at Central Michigan University and Northern Michigan University, respectively. In 1990, Mary Ellen received the Doctor of Education degree in curriculum/instruction from Memphis State University with an emphasis in business education and business communication.

Currently, Nourse is an affiliate assistant professor in the Department of English at the University of Idaho, a position she's held since November, 1996. She's currently researching trends in Web authoring languages and programs. Nourse also has taught an online course on Internet applications for Idaho educators.

Nourse's professional affiliations include current service as the publicity chair for the World Association for Online Education and membership on the Undergraduate Studies Committee of the Association for Business Communication.
