Laurence Shatkin is the proprietor of Verbal Media, LLC, an international consulting firm that specializes in career information. He has been a development scientist at Educational Testing Service, where he continues to play a key role in the further development of the SIGI PLUS computerized career guidance system found in many North American university career centers. In 2001 he completed development of the Career Oasis system for King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia.

Shatkin serves on the standards committee of the Association for Computer-Based Systems of Career Information (ACSCI), manages the organization's listserver, and chairs the membership committee.
