James L. Spira received his PhD in education and master's in public health education from the University of California, Berkeley. A licensed psychologist, he currently serves as head of the health psychology division at the Navy Medical Center in San Diego, California. Spira has served on the faculties of Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of numerous articles, chapters, and books on experiential education, especially as applied to health.
