Blackwood Mountain Computing, a computerized marketing and planning consulting firm, and a NeXT, Macintosh, and Windows developer, sells a data-based decision support system, has developed and markets specialized communications software for health care and educational organizations. Consulting locally with Duke University Medical Center, Duke's Public Relations Office, and Duke's Development Office. Other clients included Burroughs-Wellcome, Johnson-Zabor, Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, Xerox Corporation, Dun and Bradstreet, and others.

Under contract to University of North Carolina, served as managing editor and software and educational technology reviewer of On the Horizon, a futurist newsletter for senior managers in higher education. As the newsletter became more financially successful, we hired regualr paid staff and I moved into writing a regular column on software and hardware.
