Badrul H. Khan is an associate professor of education at George Washington University and the founder of BooksToRead.com, a recommended readings site on the Internet. Previously, he was an assistant professor of education and the founding director of the educational technology graduate program at the University of Texas at Brownsville. He also served as an instructional developer and evaluation specialist in the School of Medicine at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Khan received a BA in chemistry and a PhD in instructional systems technology from Indiana University at Bloomington. He is originally from Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Through his teaching and publishing, Khan has been instrumental in creating a coherent framework for Web-based instruction, training, and learning. In his first book, entitled Web-Based Instruction (1997), Khan took a leadership role in defining the critical dimensions of this new field of inquiry and practice at all levels of education. Reflecting its enormous acceptance worldwide, Web-Based Instruction has become a bestseller and has been adopted by numerous colleges and universities. In his second book, entitled Web-Based Training (2001), Khan covers the use of the World Wide Web for training at all levels. He currently is working on a new book entitled Web-Based Learning; it will include case studies, design models, strategies, and critical issues encompassing the multiple dimensions of Khan's e-learning framework.

Khan continues to advance the discourse in the field of distance learning. His contribution to the field of open, flexible, and distributed learning is recognized throughout the world. As a result, his two new books (E-Learning Strategies and E-Learning QUICK Checklist) are currently being published in several languages.

Khan is past president of the International Division of the Association for Educational and Communication Technology. He has delivered keynote addresses on Web-based instruction and e-learning at academic and professional conferences in the US and abroad. He also has served as a consultant/advisor to distance education-related projects at the World Bank, at the ministries of education in several countries, and at academic institutions and corporations in the US and abroad.

Khan is a contributing editor of Educational Technology (US) and a consulting editor of the International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning (Canada); a member of the editorial board of the Distance Education Journal (Australia) and the International Journal of Learning Technology (UK); and a member of the advisory board of Media and Technology for Human Resource Development, the Indian Journal of Training & Development, and the Review of Education at Distance (Brazil).
