Alan B. Howard is currently the Daniels Family Teaching Professor and director of American Studies Programs at the University of Virginia. After taking his PhD at Stanford where he concentrated on early American historiography, he came to UVA and, except for a Fulbright year in Australia, has been teaching there ever since. He has written on early American literature and on the literature of the South, particularly William Faulkner. But as his contribution to The Technology Source indicates, his attention has most recently been directed at integrating the new technologies into teaching and learning in the humanities.
