SAIR is an association founded for the purpose of centralizing information and facilitating collaborative discussion of issues relating to institutional research (IR). SAIR's main goals are "the advancement of research leading to improved understanding, planning, and operation of institutions of postsecondary education; the dissemination of information and interchange of ideas on problems of common interest in the field of institutional research; the continued professional development of individuals engaging in institutional research; the fostering of unity and cooperation among persons having interests and activities related to research; and the advancement of postsecondary education."

In order to achieve these goals, the organization has established a Website that houses a number of different resources for institutional researchers. Among these are:

  1. a threaded discussion forum, in which participants can discuss particular issues related to the field;
  2. a list of relevant links, including general IR sites, state organizations devoted to IR, and a list (organized by state) of the IR divisions of participating institutions of higher education in the South;
  3. a searchable membership directory (organized by name, state, institution, and city);
  4. a list of conferences sponsored by SAIR or related to the field;
  5. a state-by-state rundown of current IR news for all the states represented by the organization; and
  6. a listing of officers and contacts for the organization.

Comprising institutions and individuals in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia, SAIR's Website provides an exemplary resource for anyone looking for institutional data, personnel, or other information on the colleges and universities of the South.
