They are often the bane of academic institutions - the ranking survey. The surveys are often poorly designed, administered and analyzed but frequently they provide potential students and their parents comparative information for which they are so hungry. The Site of the Month is Yahoo! Internet Life's America's 100 Most Wired Colleges . While we are not promoting or endorsing the survey we are including it to make a point, if indeed it still needs to be made: The technological capabilities of colleges and universities are high on the list of "customer choice attributes." In addition to the traditional criteria, including the size of the library holdings, quality of faculty, and campus life (to name but a few), whether an institution offers email, network connections, dial-up connections and a student laptop program are becoming more and more important to academic "consumers."
